Top 5 Worst Films of 2022

2022 has seen both excellent and quite terrible films. Whether it was the acting, pacing, story, or overall quality, this list is some of the worst films of the year.

1. She Said

She Said  is without a doubt the worst film of 2022. While this could have been a compelling journalism film among those like Spotlight, it is instead one of the worst journalism films of all time. The acting is forced and flat, the film does not build tension, and the score is sub par. Instead of being a gripping film following the story of the journalist who broke the Harvey Wienstein scandal article, it is instead a film where the audience finds their phones more compelling than the film.

2. Don’t Worry Darling

Almost taking the first spot for worst film of 2022 only saved by the powerhouse that is Florence Pugh. While a compelling premise, the film ultimately becomes a mess of unexplained plot lines, imagery that does not further or explain the story, and wildly mishandled actors. While some may say the director is an up and coming female director, in this film’s case, she should have been replaced.

3. Hocus Pocus 2 (Disney+)

A tragic sequel to a fun 90s Disney film. Disney chose to essentially redo the original with modern actors, but traded all of the fun and innocent 90s fun for tired lines, and sneaking in LGBTQ+ characters without telling anyone. This is without a doubt one of the worst sequels ever made.

4. The Gray Man (Netflix)

While as an action film, The Gray Man could have easily been a box office hit, as one of the great action movies however, there are far better options. Combined with characters who lack motivation for their actions beyond their archetypes and flat acting, this film is more of a film about action and fights than a film with characters who are involved in a lot of action. While Chris Evans makes for a fun mustache twirling villain, Ryan Gosling is an uninteresting action hero.

5. Black Adam

Many say DC has a film problem. DC Studios is filled with creative and compelling tv shows that honor the characters and further the DC universe, the films however never seem to match up. Black Adam continues that tradition. Basically an excuse for Dwayne Johnson to beat everyone up, Black Adam lacks character motivation, a compelling protagonist, and leans more into the battle sequences over storytelling. With James Gunn now the head of DC studios, one can only hope this character gets another shot with a better actor.
